STEM CELL INJECTION THERAPIES

Female Athlete

Stem cells live in all of us and they act to repair and regenerate tissues. As we age, or when we are injured, it can be difficult to get enough stem cells to the areas where they are most needed.

Through a cutting edge procedure, Dr. Gottschalk helps to solve this problem by delivering the powerful stem cells to the areas where they are most needed. The stem cell injection procedure is done in the office. During the visit Dr. Gottschalk will expertly remove a small sample of bone marrow from your hip using a needle. That bone marrow is then processed and concentrated to isolate stem cells. Using imaging guidance, those stem cells are then injected into the injured area to promote healing and healthy tissue development.

This state of the art procedure can be used to treat many kinds of orthopedic and sports injuries including joint pain, arthritis, tendonitis, and others.

*** These stem cells come from your own body; we are not using amniotic or embryo stem cells.

PLASMA RICH PROTEIN

(PRP) TREATMENTS

The body’s platelet cells are filled with growth and healing factors and help to initiate healing as well as to attract stem cells to the site of injury.

Through state of the art injection therapies Dr. Gottschalk helps your body intensify its own healing powers. PRP treatments are done in the office and require very little down time. During the visit Dr. Gottschalk will take a sample of your own blood, he will then process and concentrate it to separate the platelets from the other components. Through this specialized processing he is able to produce a higher concentration of platelets and hence the beneficial healing properties of the cells. The resulting PRP is then injected into the injured area to stimulate your body’s own natural powers of healing.

This next-generation injection procedure can be used to treat many kinds of orthopedic and sports injuries including joint pain, arthritis, tendonitis, muscle tears, muscle sprains, ligament injuries, and others.

*** This procedure uses only your own blood and blood products.

CORTICOSTEROID INJECTIONS

Corticosteroids are a class of medications that reduce the body’s inflammatory responses. When injured, the body responds by sending higher levels of healing properties and cells to the injury site through the bloodstream.

This increased blood flow can cause redness, swelling, and pain. Initially, this inflammatory process is very important and helpful for the body to heal itself. However, prolonged inflammation can become counterproductive and the prolonged pain can be detrimental to the patient. Dr. Gottschalk uses tried-and-true injection procedures to introduce powerful anti-inflammatory steroid medications directly into the injury site. These treatments are painless, relatively harmless and can be done in the office during a visit.

This widely used and proven effective treatment can be used to treat many kinds of orthopedic and sports injuries including joint pain, arthritis, tendonitis, and others.

VISCOSUPPLEMENT "GEL" INJECTIONS

Viscosupplement gels are designed to mimic the naturally occurring fluid that is present in the body’s joints.

This joint fluid or synovial fluid acts to lubricate the bones in a joint and also to provide cushioning and shock absorption.  Arthritis in a joint often leads to a decrease in the amount of this synovial fluid, which causes pain and/or swelling. Dr. Gottschalk will evaluate your specific injury and the severity of damage to the joint. Based on his evaluation, Dr. Gottschalk will choose one of multiple viscosupplements that is most appropriate for you. During this simple in-office treatment Dr. Gottschalk will inject a viscosupplement gel into the affected joint to increase the amount of cushioning and lubrication that is present.

Depending on what type of viscosupplement in prescribed, you will receive anywhere from one to five injections over the course of several weeks.

This widely used and FDA approved therapy is most often used to treat pain and inflammation relating to joint arthritis.

TENEX PROCEDURE

Often times after an acute injury the body repairs itself but leaves behind some of the damaged tissue, just like a scar.

This scar-like tissue can many times be responsible for long-term or chronic pain, even once the acute injury has healed. Utilizing the cutting-edge Tenex procedure Dr. Gottschalk is able to use ultrasonic pulses to breakdown and remove the leftover damaged tissue. Dr. Gottschalk will use ultrasound technology to visualize the damaged area so that only local anesthesia and a small incision are necessary.

Because of the precise nature of the procedure none of the healthy tissues surrounding the damaged area are affected.

This minimally invasive procedure can be used to treat many kinds of orthopedic and sports injuries that involve damage to the tendons. These injuries include rotator cuff tear, tennis or golfer’s elbow, runner’s knee, jumper’s knee, Achilles tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis.
